About Rick Segel
Rick Segel is a never-ending, compulsive entrepreneur. While still in college, he started and later sold two different businesses. After his father passed away, Rick entered the family business and transformed a 900-square-foot women’s apparel store into a 10,000- square-foot fashion leader in the Boston area. His accomplishments earned him induction into the Massachusetts Retailers Hall of Fame.
Rick began sharing his retailing knowledge as a professional speaker, delivering more than 2,000 presentations across 49 states and nine countries. His clients included Microsoft, FASTSIGNS, McDonald’s, the Government of New South Wales, and Major League Baseball.
He has authored 23 books, including the number-one-rated retail book on Amazon, Retailing for Dummies, which was published in three editions. His longest-running book is Laugh & Get Rich, co-authored with World Champion Speaker Darren LaCroix. Rick also earned the prestigious Certified Speaking Professional designation.
Rick eventually retired to Florida, where he lives in an active adult community overlooking the fourth hole of a golf course. With more than 100 clubs and activities available, retirement sounded perfect. But after eight years, Rick came to two startling conclusions:
He hates retirement—and he hates golf!
So, Rick came out of retirement and is now having the time of his life. His six-book series, The Lighter Side of Aging Collection, launching in late August 2026, has truly been a labor of love. And there are several more interesting projects coming soon.
As Rick likes to say:
“At my age, you have to work fast. There may be more days behind me than ahead of me—but the best is yet to come!”
